Tried to upgrade my XP Pro to Vista 32bit build 5732. After the installation
completed the PC would start loading Vista and then reboot. The PC also
reboots when attempting safe mode.
I tried to do a system repair from the DVD, but after 12 hours it was still
running. The last thing that it was doing was examining the event log.
Eventually Vista decided that the installation failed and restored my
Windows XP Pro.
I was able to get to a command prompt from the DVD, but I could not run the
Event Viewer.
Now that I'm back to XP, how can I find what it was that Vista was gagging
on?
FWIW, the Vista Upgrade Advisor mentioned the following installed software
may cause issues:
- TweakUI
- SyncToy
- Avast! AV
- MS SQL Server VSS Writer
- J2SE Runtime Env 5.0 u6
