OK... Tried Google and had a few hits, but nothing relevant...

Trying to upgrade my XP Pro SP2 to Vista x86 5728. The upgrade seems to go
smoothly, then the system reboots... and just keeps rebooting. If I start in
safe mode the system still reboots right after crcdisk.sys is loaded. XP has
all the latest updates installed.

I did find one suggestion to remove the pcmcia.sys files but that made no
difference.

Upgrade adviser finds no problems and only suggests visiting Windows Update
after installing to update by SoundBlaster drivers.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue? Any idea how I can find out
what is actually causing the reboot?

My hardware:
DFI LanParty nf4 Ultra-D (nForce4 chipset) with onboard:
- nVidia gigabit LAN
- Marvell Yukon gigabit LAN
- AC97 audio (disabled)
Opteron 165 dual core 64bit CPU
SMC 223 flash media reader, no media inserted
nVidia 7600GT PCIe video card
Creative Audigy 4 SoundBlaster
60gig Maxtor PATA hard drive
AOpen DUW1615/ARR PATA DVDRW drive

Thanks!!!

FWIW, I formatted the drive and did a fresh install of 5728 x86. The
installation went smoothly and the PC booted up fine.

Unfortunately, Vista is not even close to RC ready. I don't know how this
can be called a "Release Candidate", as that would imply that MS though they
were done and wanted the users to have a go.

Several times, when downloading files, the download would finish and the PC
would start copying the file to it's target folder. At 99% it would just
stop and you could not even use Task Manager to get the dialog off the
screen. At this point Explorer starts to gag and you're lucky if you can
even get to your Start button.

To make matters worse, MS decided to remove the ability to
Shutdown/Restart/etc from Task Manager.

After several hours of use I still cannot figure out how the "back" button
works on the Windows Explorer... I go to Control Panel and do a few
functions. Then I use the Back button to get to where I came from and I end
up someplace completely different.

There were just too many lockups and crashes to even try to make use of
Vista. I haven't even started installing any programs and I'm having issues.
