I noted a similar warning from MS. XP and Vista are on different DRIVES
- not a traditional dual boot - but the Vista drive is not hidden from
XP. It becomes drive letter "J", and that may trigger the behavior noted.
Thanks
To elaborate Colin's answer:
This has nothing to do with what drive/partition each system is installed
on. The issue is that Vista continues to use volsnap.sys when dealing with
System Restore Points and the previous versions of saved files. When XP is
booted, XP discovers these files that were not created in XP and deletes
them as a matter of protection from perceived malware. This is a known
issue. Enabling BitLocker is one way of preventing this behavior, along
with "hiding" the Vista system drive from XP, as noted by Colin. Microsoft
does not have a solution at this time, nor does it foresee having a solution
in the future.
So, as a warning to those who are using dual-booting as a testbed, Vista
will not have any restore points or "previous versions" saved unless one of
the two above mentioned procedures are followed.
