Other devices on the same phone line, such as fax machines, cordless
phones, etc.
56k should the max at which you "could" connect. There are many things are
contribute to your connection speed. Mostly the quality of the phone line
itself. Basicly the only thing you can do is try using a different number
to dial in. A 56k modem will "almost never" connect at 56k.
28.8K usually indictaes old/poor wiring from the Telco. In some areas,
that is the best connection you can get on Dial-up ( My father had this
problem )
