I'm trying to figure out what 5401k is. I'm job hunting
for a new position and this term has come up several
times. Does anyone know what it it?

Thanks.

A 401K is a retirement savings/investment program that many employers offer.
Often they match the amount that you place in your account. It is not a
PowerPoint term. <VBG> When a prospective employer mentions something that
you don't understand, the best thing to do is to ask them what they mean.
There is no shame in not knowing.

So, which one is it?

Do you think the webmaster is scratching his head on the number of hits his
algae presentation is suddenly getting? (That red algae is really red.)

Please spend a few minutes checking out www.pptfaq.com This link will
answer most of our questions, before you think to ask them.

Change org to com to defuse anti-spam, ant-virus, anti-nuisance
misdirection.

It's a good example of what not to do in PowerPoint. Contains a number of
objects pasted straight out of Photo Editor ("Source application cannot be
found). If they are over-scanned, there is nothing you can do about it.

Adam,

Some of the pictures in the presentation have been pasted direct from Photo
editor. You can figure that when you right click on them and it tells you
what program they can be edited in. If you double click, it says the source
application cannot be found.

I cut one image out, pasted back as png and resaved and got an immediate
reduction in file size. So, pasting straight from Photo editor may result in
file size bloat. Which sounds like a good tutorial possibility.

I was confused that you couldn't anything about the pic size, because I
could still right click and save as a picture (in 2002) or copy and paste.
What you say is interesting - I noticed that the file was very big
considering none of the pics were very large or inserted oversized. I'm of
the opinion, though, that photos like these are better handled as JPEGs
(which they clearly were to start with, or have been at some time). I
suspect it's quite possible that the size could be considerably smaller with
careful use of JPEG compression. I did the same test you did and some of
the cut and pasted pics reduced the file size when pasted as PNG but others
made the file bigger still.

It's in the FAQ about why my PPT files are so humongous already, gents.

In a nutshell: when you copy paste, you get the original picture data (jpg,
whatever) AND you get a WMF representation of the image for the app to
display in case the source app isn't available.

Bitmaps in WMF's clothing are in BMP format and uncompressed. And I don't
think PPT compresses them internally either.

Take a highly compressed 60k JPG that uncompresses into a couple mb of data
and you can see what happens to your PPT file size as a result.

Adam,

Yes, I thought of that after I posted. You can fix file size by the options
you mentioned. It is the same with image backgrounds to autoshapes. If the
images are over-scanned, it will bloat file size. The work around is to save
as png or jpg, or cut and paste special back as png or jpg. But then they
are no longer autoshapes.
