Allan

On my P4 1.7 ghz machine I have 512MB of RAM.
If I check the system information right after I start up
the computer it says:

Total Physical Memory:512.00mb
Available Physical Memory:330.06

What I want to know is what possibly could be taking up
the much memory right when I start up my computer.

Are there any programs that show you what programs are
running and how much memory they are taking up?

Thanks.

hi. Supposing you have Windows 2000 or xp all you have to
do is pring up the task manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) and click
the processes tab, next make sure the "show processes
from all users" is ticked, click the column titled "Mem
usage" twice and you should have the list of processes
and the ammount of memory they are taking up on ram in
Descending order

What you actually have is 330.06 mb of "useless" RAM, meaning that
Windows has, so far at least, been totally unable to find any
potentially beneficial use whatever, no matter how trivial, for that
RAM.

Windows will always attempt to find some use, anything at all that
might conceivably be of some benefit, rather than leaving the RAM
sitting there idly going to rot.

Hope this explains the situation.

Good luck

Unused ram is wasted RAM! You are not driving your system hard enough to
utilize it all. You could get by with 128 meg (though the system would be
slow).

Be happy! You have a bunch in reserve.

hmmmmm.....
