I had a Soundblaster Live 5.1 Card which I had to throw due to unsupported
drivers.
I have a new motherboard now. Asus M2A-MVP saying it fully supports Vista.

I have the latest 64bit drivers installed for the High Definition Audio
Device from Realtek and I'm having problems with my rear speakers.

Tests on the RealTek software produce sound to all speakers correctly, but
using the "Speakerfill" option I get very muddy sounds on my back speakers.
With my SB Live speakers I had perfect sound coming from all 5 speakers even
If I was playing only stereo audio.
This also happens in Games with very quiet / muddy sounds coming from the
back speakers.

I'm thinking about buying a new soundcard, but I'm not sure where to go. My
new motherboard doesn't have a plain PCI slot anymore. It has 2x PCI-E 16x,
1 PCI-E x1, and 2 PCI 2.0 slots.

Should I buy a regular PCI soundcard (soundblaster audigy 2 or something)
and plug that into the PCI-E x1 slot?

If I were you I would wait a while before buying. Vista really
overhauled the way sound functions in Windows. The sound hardware
venders are still playing catch-up. Wait for new hardware, new
drivers and favorable reviews. Realtek might even release new drivers
that improves there sound.
