Faster? In what manner?

I can't speak for 2.0 Beta 38, but in using 2.0 Beta 28 on my Win2ks, I
noticed 40tude slowing down during all operations including start-up,
post-refresh and shut-down. This started occurring around 3 months
after install.

In poking around I found that 40tude's data files had grown very large
although I'd taken pains to manage any downloads through deletion and
changing of target directories.

It seems you missed the most important action: compacting the database (menu
File - Compact database).
One thing is purging/deleting articles, which removes the contents from the
records but leaves the "holes" in the database, another is compacting, which
removes the holes, cutting down the size of the data files.

From beta 28 to 38 Dialog has improved very much, in stability, speed,
memory management.

Thank you, I appreciate the explanation.
