4.12 seems to have broken KOTOR again

I'm getting intermittent low frame rates and artifacts. Anyone else notice
this?

Sadly, it seems KOTOR will perpetually have problems with ATI boards unless
one sticks to an older driver.

First it was the zoning crashes, now this.

I've yet to experience any problems with KOTOR regardless of the drivers I
install (and I'm running the latest set on a 9500Pro)

What you say is contradicted by what's found at swforums.bioware.com until
the technical forum.

No artifacts with my ATi Radeon X800 Pro using Catalyst 4.12. In fact,
framerate seems to be even smoother. Perhaps it's only a problem with the
drivers and certain video cards? What video card are you using?

Not the case for me for now.

I also experience zoning crashes on all drivers before 4.11 beta. But with
4.12 they haven't returned either, so it's good for me.

I've read the posts there and in here as well but I've never had any
problems, and I've played the game all the way through 3 times now... maybe
I've just gotten lucky?

Yup, I've had some flickering and some weird vertex errors.

I NEVER had any problems on my 9700PRO.And I've KOTOR several times with
drivers from 4.3 to 4.9. The new 4.12s run perfectly.

OT - LOL, yeah it always seems to come down to minute incompatibles
involving a few of those parties. Back in the day with Geforce 2's it was
VIA screwing things up. I've always been critical of creative, although I
think its their drivers more than any physical hardware.

X800 XT PE.

Ya, I don't get any zoning crashes on 4.12 either.

As for the intermittent artifacting and low framerate, have you played
through the entire game? It only happens in certain parts of the game for
me. I notice artifacting in one particular room in the Vulkar Base - the one
next to the room with the computer terminal and where you can find some
Pazaak cards in the desk. Also notice artifacting in Lower Undercity at one
particular circus, where the water cascades down. It's weird how it only
happens in certain parts.

The intermittent low framerates happen in the plains while hunting Kath
Hounds on Dantooine. Also outside the entrance to the temple on the Unknown
World.

I restored to 4.12 beta and don't notice an significant problems, though it
seems to crash for no apparent reason at least once over the course of the
entire game.

Are you using Catalyst 4.12?

That's exactly what ATI claimed too, until they finally fixed the zoning
crashes with a hotfix to Cat 4.9.

I am but I've only played for about an hour or so on them... I'll get some
more time in on them this weekend. But I seem to remember other people
posing in here a while back that never had any problems either.

ATI only fixes problems they can replicate in their labs. So they wouldn't
be issuing a hotfix for KOTOR if there were no problems.

FFS!! The guy says he has no problem. Either believe him, call him a
lier or STFU about it.

Oh, and Happy Christmas ;-)

Why would I even care to lie about this? I'm not saying that the problem
doesn't exist. Any fool can obviously see that it does simply by visiting
the bioware forum. I'm just saying that I've never experienced any problems
playing KOTOR, and I know that there have been others that haven't as well.
Just because there's a problem for most people, it doesn't mean it's a
problem for everyone.

If you don't believe me then come over to my house and play KOTOR all the
way through...

Sorry, but I would really like to know why the crashing occurs.
Are you by any chance running on an OS other than WinXP Pro? It says in the
KOTOR hotfix that the crashing occurs in WinXP Pro.
