Interesting switch here. Had my IDE HD detecting on primary IDE as master
and DVD detected on secondary IDE as master. Opened up the case to check
CPU ('nother story) and put all back together, boot up the computer and now
the HD is detected on 3rd IDE as master and the DVD is detected on 4th IDE
as master. Tried unplugging the HD and rebooting and then plugging back in
and rebooting but no change. Can this be manually set in BIOS?

thanks
Jay

That happened to me, and I was eventually able to figure out why. I had
changed BIOS to set the RAID to IDE, but I had nothing attached to the RAID
port. I suggest that you change it back. I had problems with flakey booting
with my IDE drive as 3rd, but when I reset it to 1st it always worked
reliably. That's assuming you are not using RAID, of course.

Thanks for the tip. It got me in the direction of looking at other BIOS
settings and on the first screen for IDE set up I had changed the
Enhanced mode support to P-ATA. It should have been S-ATA even though I
only have P-ATA drives!
