I have some fairly basic questions about a 3Dfx-Quantum3D Obsidian board
and 3Dfx chips / Voodoo cards.
1.) in 1996 or 1997 there was a specific Quantum3D Obsidian board that sold
for $2500. it was based on the original Voodoo Graphics architecture
(Voodoo1) and given the timeframe, it was definitally not Voodoo2-based.
This Voodoo1-based Obsidian board was, I think, the absolute top of the line
board out there. it had more 3Dfx chips and more RAM than any Voodoo card
for games, and more than even the typical Obsidian board used in coin-op
arcade machines. So my question about this $2500 Obsidian board is: how
many Pixelfx chips, how many Texelfx chips, how much RAM did it have, and
could two such $2500 Obsidian boards be used in parallal, in SLI ?
2.) the Voodoo3 (aka Banshee2) - announced in 1998, released in 1999. My
question about Voodoo3 is very simple: how many pixel rendering pipelines
did it have: one or two? this would determine the amount of pixels per
clock it could provide. not texels per clock, as I know that Voodoo3 had 2
TMUs / Texelfx units on one chip but what I am trying to accurately know is
the amount of pixel pipes / Pixelfx units Voodoo3 had intergrated in its
single-chip solution.
I *do* know that the original Banshee from 1998 had 1 Pixelfx/ pixel
pipeline + 1 Texelfx/ TMU on its single chip solution (thus less than
Voodoo2's 1 Pixelfx 2x Texelfx) -
was Banshee2/Voodoo3 exactly double Banshee ?
I'd appreciate some accurate answers to my questions, thanks in advance.
