I have set up a new user account in my win2000. When I
reboot or restart and sign on, this is the error I get and
my usrobotics v.90 v.92 will not be recognized. What do I
need to do to get the dial up modem to work.
Thanks. Leslie

Hi Leslie! I'm having the very same problem, although mine is more random.
It will work very nicely for a good while, but sooner or later, I'll get the
"program error" box with the same 3cmlink error message too, and I have to
reboot to get it to reinitialize the modem. I've seen some info that this
may be due to some kind of device conflict, but I'm new enough to win2K that
I'm not real sure how to troubleshoot that :(

Since USRobotics doesn't fully support winmodems where the driver is built
into win2K, they have been no help at all :(

Any suggestions anyone? I'm stuck with the winmodem :(

Thanks!

Hi Elaine;
I still can't connect to the internet with a user account,
although I can with the admin privileges. I did find out
what the 3cmlink error message means: it is a program that
loads and runs with a modem that has to use windows to
run. A URobotics 5610 performance pro modem is supposed
to fix the problem. I bought one and installed it and
removed the 3cmlink.exe program after uninstalling the old
modem. I no longer get the error, but still cannot
connect to the internet on a user account. Another issue
altogether though. Customer support at URobotics said
that the error was generated due to a conflict with a
program that loads on start up. He suggested going
through all the programs that load on start up, diabling
them and trying one at a time to see which one generates
the error. Or he said to buy the more powerful modem
which does not need to have the 3cmlink program running on
windows. Since there is no nice and easy start up screen
in win2000 I opted to buy the new modem. I don't get the
3cmlink.exe error message now. I did see postings on ways
to access start up programs, so maybe that would help
you. Good luck!
Leslie
