35mm film flatness with Epson 4870

I have no success flattening 35mm film strips. I've tried heavy books,
rolling them up backwards in an aluminum foil tube, etc. I wonder if
there is another holder I can use on my Epson 4870 that will keep the
film strip flat during the scan. Will a dedicated film scanner the
solution?

Dedicated film scanners have holders that may flatten the film.
This is the 35 mm strip film holder for a Minolta ScanDual IV film scanner.

It has cross bars on both sides of the film strip at the space between
frames.

One way to flatten 35 mm film is to rewash in cool (around 68 degrees) water
and dry the film. A little Kodak photo-flo or other brands of wetting agent
will prevent water spots.

Would it be possible to use this process on badly warped slides? Mainly
Ecktachrome and Velvia 50 and 100. I don't have any darkroom experience so I
have no idea if it's okay to even wash a slide.

My guess is that you would want to take the film out of the mount, wash,
then reinsert in a new mount (maybe a Gepe glass one to hold it really
flat).

Yes It would they have attachments that hold film in place.
