32 bit vs 64 bit defender question

I'm a bit confused. I thought I had a great computer (3.00 gigahertz Intel
Pentium 4,
16 kilobyte primary memory cache, 1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache)
but I can't install the 64 bit defender. I remember years ago when I used
Netscape I used the 128 bit one for better security. What am I missing here?
I know I'm not that technical about this so I hope it's not too dumb a
question. I guess it has something to do with the processor and not the
security level?

Hello Lynn,

The 64-bit version is for 64-bit OS versions. Is named Windows Defender64.msi
The 32-bit version is for the 99% of the users is named Windows Defender.msi

The X64 is the 64bit installer - unless you have the 64bit XP Pro (which most
do not have) you will want "WindowsDefender.msi"

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.

Please, rate the pºsts.

Yes, it does help. It was pretty much what I suspected. I have XP pro but
can't get it in without some help. When I tried installing it, it did it as a
partial dual boot only. May contact MS to see if they can help some time in
the distant future. Thanks for responding.

Hi Lynn,

Glad to help and thanx for updating the thread.
