Thank you for taking time to read it.
I have been having many problems with my XP home , tho I got use to some
and I adjust myself to live with them but there are few that become less and less
tolerable with time.
Sorry I combine so many issues in one thread, did not want to post separate for each.
I know it's hard to trouble shoot from far , considering all of us using different tool
and setting and there is just endless possibility to how , what and where things could get
wrong but I take the shot , maybe any of you experience something similar and have idea
how to deal with it.
First, every time I want to shut down my computer it will restart instead.
Start - Turn Off , always restart .
I notice it happen when my ADLS modem is ON , if you turn off the modem prior to turning off the
computer it's ok , but once the modem is on , the computer will never shut off.
Second , going back to windows 98 I had problem with Folder View. Seem to be the same case with my XP
home service pack 1 as well.
I set up my folder to view by details , by type . I usually have few open in the same time to work
on multiple files in different applications.
Very often , 7 out of 10 times when i go to My Computer from desktop short cut , it will change the
view to View By Icons . I set it back the way I like and it never remember it.
In few hours it goes back and messing it up.
It also change the options of the view. I have turn on 'name', 'size', 'type' and 'date modified'.
Out of no where it will show me all possible options that you could have , date created, attributes
etc...
going to Tools - Folder Option - View - Apply To All Folders become really annoying routine.
I read back in 98 years about registry modification and about windows having problem if the
number of folders goes beyond few thousands , I did follow few instructions but the problem
remain regardless what I try.
3rd , is very recent .
Very frequently when i click icon on my desktop or shortcut from my task bar (at the bottom of the
screen) the explorer with suddenly disappear. It's gone for maybe 10 seconds and coming back.
Frequently end up with some error saying explorer.exe error , asking to send error report to microsoft.
It does not close anything programs only explorer stuff like browser and folders.
Any ideas or page I could refer to will be much appreciated.
