I have the same problem with the way OL2003 formats my Full Name fields in
some cases, especially the 3 lettered last name.
I have a 'Gary Bay' in my contacts. If I format with last
name/comma/space/first name in this persons contact screen, it will not
display the last name on my Contacts telephone view listing. It just
shows
'Gary' in 1st name field and nothing in last name field.
If I click on the 'full name' next to the contact name to see how it
formats
it, it shows 'Bay' as middle name. If I change it to show in the correct
fields it will display it in their contact screen as last name/first name
however it will not let me put a comma after the last name. Whenever I
try
to enter the comma, it shows okay within that persons contact however it
shows blank again on the full contacts screen/telephone list display.
When
you go back in it shows it has reformatted it back to First name/middle
name,
hence not showing it in the display (unless of course you have your middle
name displayed) but if I sort by last name field it will not acknowledge
this
person alpha by last name.
I had to leave the comma out of the name and show it as 'Bay Gary' in his
contact screen. No biggie however it sucks when trying to keep things
consistent
Also be aware that if there are any spaces in your first name field it
will
take whatever is after the space and put it in the middle name field. So
those you will need to reformat (override) in the full name link to left
of
the contacts name.
We have well over 6000 contacts (currently converting all to OL2003) and
many contacts are companies and we do not have individuals names for those
companies however we want it to go to a sales manager or office manager or
director, etc. OL somehow recognizes some of those as titles or invalid
last
name/first name. (I haven't figured out the rhyme or reason yet). My
support
person was entering Office Manager in as Manager, Office. For some titles
it
works and others it does not so I told her to enter the full title in the
First name field so if you do an alpha sort it will come up in the
beginning
of alpha so we know if we have an actual person to address mailings to if
needed.
I would love to know how to fix this 3 lettered last name problem,
however.
Judy
your findings.
Post more complete and accurate details.

Outlook doesn't seem to recognize 3-letter last names in
that it won't populate the "File As" or "Email Display As"
fields according to the default settings. Does anyone
have any idea how to get Outlook to disregard the length
of the last name?
Thanks.
