3 installs later - can't get IE in Vista to work!

I just can't get Internet Explorer to work in Vista. After each install,
everything works pretty much OK, except for IE. I run it, a blank window
comes up, and it just freezes. Very difficult to close too, and can't run
anything else until it does close down!
I'm reaching the stage that I'll have to reformat and reinstall XP all over
again.
I really want to try Vista, but I've now spent 2 days trying to get this to
work.
Can anyone shed anylight on this?
Thanks
Iain

Have you tried a different browser? I'm using firefix with no problems.
Trying a different browser would at least determine whether or not your
problem is IE itself.

Do you have Java 1.5 plug-in installed? This is causing some people
problems. If so, uninstall it and then use the Java 6 Beta instead.

Thanks for that. I downloaded Java 6 Beta but haven't installed it yet
because I think I know what theproblem is. It's UAC. If I switch it off, then
everything is fine with ie, if I switch it back on then I just get a blank
window and it freezes!
I'll test out this theory today, see if it holds out, and post later.

Yep, definitely UAC. If I turn it off, everything is OK, but whenever I turn
it back on, IE just freezes with an empty window and nothing at all after
that.

Dear imacken:

I think i am experiencing the same problem of IE freezing in Vista Beta 2. I
plead ignorance of UAC. I tried starting IE and it still is blank I would
appreciate assistance in how to locate and disable UAC. Thank you.

Access your user account in the control panel by your favourite method.
Mine is, click Start and type "user." One of the options is "Change
security settings." Click on that. (Probably have to agree to some warning
to open it) Uncheck the checkbox for UAC. Click "Okay." Reboot. Ignore
the red warning shield in your system tray.

Thank you for your help. After I wrote my posting it dawned on me what UAC
stood for. So I felt stupid. I think my problem was correct by downloading
the new Java Runtime environment as I have not disabled User Account Control
(UAC). Thank you again.
