Somehow I have ended up with a 3 inch bar on the left side of my desktop with 3 smaller windows that say
Folder Tasks, Other Places, and Details. This is apparantly "glued" in place and comes back on every new boot. How did it happen and how do I remove it? Thanks very much!

That is the task bar. Normally you see it at the bottom of the
screen. You should be able to grab it with your mouse pointer and drag it
back to the bottom. You can also do a right click on it for options and
properties.

Remember to right-click and unlock it first.
