Miguel

hello,

anyone have thoughts on this:

got my dell system about a year ago with DSL. Used to
leave it on all the time. No problem. But in August or
so, about the time of that Love Worm thingy going around
(i did get infected, but have since removed it), my
computer would get slower and slower when it was on until
it would just freeze after about three hours. this is
still the case now. it works fine when i turn it on for
about the first hour or so but then it starts to go
downhill. i've got 256RAM, and my hard drive is 80% free.

any thoughts would be appreciated. If you help me fix
the thing, I'll buy you dinner for two at your favorite
restaraunt. Really.

thanks in advance,

Miguel

Is the computer as a whole slower or just the DSL?

In Windows Task Manager what process is using up the cpu and memory?

Is it slow if you turn it on and don't use it for the first three hours?

Have you tried running Spybot and Ad-aware?

As you can see I only have questions no answers. Good luck.

Steve

First thing to do is to find the culprit

1- After turning your machine on bring up the task manager right click on
task bar->Task Manager
2- Leave the task manager on while your machine is getting slower
3- Now once your machine is slowed down look at the processes tab and click
on the mem usage column
4- This should show you what process is taking up the most memory and
causing your machine to slow down
5- Write back to this forum the name of the process ( i hope it's not
explorer by the way )
6- We can go from there
