I've got a Radeon 9600 Pro, w/ tv out, and dual VGA out.
I can use any two displays simultaneously without difficulty.
Is it possible to use all 3?
Yes, but you will not be able to do this using another ATI video card.
I have no idea why ATI has intentionally set up their drivers in such
a way to exclude other ATI cards in multi monitor displays, but they
have and they say so.
There are ways to use multiple ATI cards with work arounds, but it
isn't worth all the hassle. Just use another manufacturer. I have a
number of ATI All in Wonder cards, this AIW 7500 AGP is running with a
Matrox G200 PCI on two 22 inch monitors. I bought a new ATI PCI Radon
7500 figuring I would match the ATR for better driver support and
higher resolutions. Then I called tech support and posted here to find
out the best way to install the drivers and what kind of inherent
multi display support ATI had with their drivers. I quickly discovered
the bad news and the PCI card is still in the shrink wrap!
There is little display limitation in windows. I think even 98se
supports up to 9 displays. I have been using multi displays for many
years in everything from 98se - XP Pro and even Linux. I don't
understand how people get anything done on one display! Far and away
the best video card for multi display and 2D is Matrox. Unfortunately,
Matrox 3D sucks and they long ago abandoned any home/small office
TV/Video recording capturing support with any of their products.
So to do this with a Radeon 9600 Pro you will need to add additional
PCI cards and manually install the drivers. Then just go into display
properties and you will see the additional monitors. You can then
enable and configure them individually just like you would a single
monitor.
I have a new 9600 All in Wonder PRO that I am planning on running with
three monitors. The 9600 AIW PRO supports two VGA displays and I am
going to add the third by way of a Matrox G450 PCI dual head. I don't
see why this would be a problem but when dealing with dual displays
and ATI, .... you never know.
