Just upgraded m/b, CPU and RAM
and ran the Repair option from XP CD.
I now have 3 connection icons in my System Tray, I had only one on the old
system, the SppedTouch connection which closed when I disconnected.
Now I also have:

1394 connection
Speed: 400 Mbps
Old system had an added PCI Firewire card and no icon is System Tray, this
one has it onboard. I will be using it for digital camcorder.
Why is the Firewire showing as connected at 400Mbps when there's nothing
connected to it?

Local Area Connection
A network cable is unplugged
PC is not connected to a network. I have right clicked and disabled it but
how do I get rid of it?

Because the connection is activated. It's telling you that it is ready to
use. I have an external dual USB 2.0 / Firewire card. I have the on-board
firewire turned off in the bios. I don't get this notification unless I
enable the bios setting for the built-in 1394 port.

Turn off the connection you are NOT using in the bios. You likely have two
LAN ports, as there are on my Asus M/B. Only enable the one you are actually
using.

Thanks for the reply. Disabled the LAN in Device Manager and the icon
hasn't come back.
As for the Firewire I was curious to know why I had a connection icon
showing on this m/b but not the old one.
