I upgraded to the latest ATI drivers for my AIW 9700 Pro. The only glitch I
see so far is that I can't run Quake 2 anymore. The program crashes before
it even gets to finish loading. I know it's the Open GL driver because if I
open Q2 in software mode, there are no problems. I've tried different
desktop resolutions as well as using ATI Control Panel to put all Open GL
settings to their lowest or "compatibility" levels with no success.

Has anyone else been experiencing Open GL problems with the 3.9 drivers and
is there a solution?

Well I think I found a temporary fix until ATI releases their next Catalyst
drivers for me to test. I took the file *atioglxx.dll* located in my
WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder and replaced it with an older version found in the
REINSTALLBACKUPS subfolder and Quake2 works fine! Doesn't sound like the
perfect fix since this file is not really part of Catalyst 3.9, but it
doesn't seem to affect anything else. It's the only OpenGL game I have.

Or better yet, there is a fix for the 3.9's for the OpenGL issue (
which btw should only affect AIW cards ) The fix can be found here

Hope this helps
