Basically files I write to a 3.5" CR-RW disappear.
I have an HP Pavilion 521n PC with the factory HP CD-Writer cd16V
running Windows XP home.
When I put a 3.5" CD-RW in the drive it poped up a directory of files on
the CD. In this case, there were 2 files, each about 18 mb in size.
I dragged another file onto the CD (11 mb) and then clicked "Write Files
to CD" in Windows Explorer. The CD Writing wizard came up and it's
progress bar counted off 2 minutes and then the CD-RW was ejected.
I put the CD back in, and Windows Explorer came up. But the file I added
wasn't there. I only had the original 2 files. So I selected properties
on the CD drive. It showed that there was 18 mb in use, even though
Windows explorer showed TWO files of that size.
So I erased the CD-RW, and repeated the process. This time when I
re-inserted the CD-RW after writing, it was completely empty.
So I rebooted, put a brand new 3.5" CD-RW in the drive, copied the file,
Wrote Files to CD. It acted a little different this time. In previous
tries, the CD-RW light flashed a good bit as the Wizard's progress
indicator moved. This time, there was hardly a flash until the Wizard
was down to 5 seconds remaining--then the light came on strong for maybe
half a minute or so. In any case, the CD-RW was still empty when I put
it back in, but I can see by looking at the CD-RW, that something had
been to it.
The CD's are Memorex Pocket CD-RW disks (210 mb).
As far as I know (and I'm not positive), 5" CD-RW's are working ok. And
FWIW, I have Nero-Burning ROM version 5.5, Cakewalk Pyro 2003 installed
on the machine and of course the HP Record Now software that came with
the machine.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Kevin
