ATi Radeon 8500DV
Windows XP Pro (will all MS patches)
DirectX 9.0b

Since upgrading to the catalyst 3.10 drivers 2 days ago, I get random TV
lock-ups when lots of memory is being used (ie. when VMWare is also
running). After ending the TV in task manager and starting it again it
shuts itself down, then after about 4 or 5 more attempts to open it, the
entire machine resets. Anything that can do this to an NT/XP system is
really f*cked.

Any suggestions?

When are ATi going to sort out the driver f*ck up problems?

Are there any alternative 'all-in-one' solutions out there?

Many thanks,
Steve :)

Do you have a hyperthreading cpu? There is a known (crash) issue with tv
tuner cards
and hyperthreading. There is also a fix, but you have to contact microsoft
for it.
Or you can do a google search for stream.sys 5.3.2600.1193 and find a link
to download it.

This is probably unrelated to your problem, but I figured I post it as a
data point.

I just upgraded to 3.10 driver & MMC 8.8.
I also upgraded by hardware from an old Asus A7V133 MB to NF2 400 based MB.

I was doing some stress testing to see how much I can push my XP2100 while I
was watching the TV.
After a while, I realized that my system had frozen (no kbd responses, Task
Manager stopped updating), but the TV was still working with sound. Could
not change the channel though, so I had to hit the reset button.

I have a dual monitor setup, so I run the TV on one screen while I run
VMware & compiles in the 2nd screen. No problems so far except for the ATI
Control Panel crashing at the startup (has been doing so for the several
releases)

I second that - ATI has no quality assurance what so ever when they test
their drivers!

Very very often the TV is still playing and the rest of the computer has
stopped responding, has been like this since 8.5 - I sent them a email of
the problem and they verified that it was a bug and I have been waiting
since for a fix...

I also get that!

I did a google search for that patch and all that comes up is your post! Any
clues on places to find it?

Check newsgroup alt.binaries.warez.ibm-pc. I uploaded a file called
tunerfix.zip which has the microsoft stream fix. It didn't work for
me but you can give it a try. My fix ended up being turning off agp
fast writes..

MMC 8.7 with Catalyst 3.10 seems to be stable. I used to have TV
freezes with Catalyst 3.10 and MMC 8.8. Been stable since I downgraded
to MMC 8.7. I have AIW 8500DV, dual Xeon, XP Pro with all latest
updates. Hope this helps!
