2XExplorer question

There are some other 2X users in ACF. I put this question on the 2X
forum awhile ago, and Nikos said he never saw the problem. I see it
every few days.

It looses the setting for View/Sort by.

I usually select Type and Name. (2X can only handle 2 items here).

I shut down each night, so a daily cold boot. Frequently, the settings
are lost and have to be reset.

Anyone else see this and a fix?

Just wondering whether you have some sort of registry cleaning (history, mru
lists etc) programme that runs periodically? maybe automatically .Some of
the cleaners will clean preference settings for folders, window sizes
,windows explorer settings etc and default them back to original settings.I
know these cleaners can affect windows explorer settings ..maybe 2explorer
as well?

Nope, nothing like that. This problem occurs frequently, but I have no
cleaners running, and rarely use one. Also, I rarely install anymore,
some installs screw up other preferences.

Mike -

Do you have "Save Program State on Exit" checked? (View, Options, General
tab)

I think the registry value involved would be:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ZabaraKatranemia Plc\2xExplorer\Left Pane
Settings\nSortBy

Now, I don't know how to interpret the numbers for this particular value ...
I didn't find it in registry.txt or in a search of the 2xExplorer forum.

But one thing you could try is to set the sort order the way you want. Then
exit 2xExplorer. Run Regedit and check the number for this registry value.
When you see that you have lost your sort order again, go into the registry
and see if this value has changed. I think you can start 2xExplorer with a
parameter that will tell it to use a specific registry key and you could set
this key with the value you need for your desired sort order.

Maybe my policy on installing new programs would work for you. I
install new software, but if it gives any problems at all, either
within itself, or by conflicting with previously installed
programs, I dump it immediately, without bothering to track down
the problem or trying to fix it. This keeps my computer running
smoothly.

Thanks, good info. I'll try it and report back. The lost settings happen
intermittently, but I'll see.

I've been using 2XExplorer for about 6 years, it's not new to me.

Your policy is certainly different, but it's not mine.

Good luck, Mike. Of course there is a "Right Pane Settings" registry value
that's also involved. Some of the registry values are very well documented
in the 2x/x2 documentation, or in the forums, but I didn't find an
explanation of the "nSortBy" values. Maybe I didn't look long enough.
Anyway, even though you are used to 2x, you may find that you like x2
better. It seems faster to me. More important for me, it supports a
thumbnail view (work with graphics a lot). The scrap panes are really neat,
but alas you'd have to pay to get that feature.
