Hi hope this hasn't been asked already but fear it has.
Maybe a search function on the site would be good so as to
weed out all the duplicate post's.
Anyways.
My problem is this. I have 3 machines networked together
through an 8port switch. main pc= Xp pro, 2nd pc=Xp pro &
notebook1 = 98se.
Just recently i had to vape the hardrive on the 2nd pc.
After a routine reinstall i discovered that none opf the
computers could be viewed on the 2nd pc. I have spent over
a week trying various things, all the machines ping each
other but it is still unworkable.
*pc 1 can view and open all files on all machines
*pc 2 can view and open all files on pc1, but after a 2
minute delay can access the files on notebook 1
*notebook 1 can fully access all files on pc 1, but when
trying to view anything on pc2 is asked for a password
which doesnt exist.
The lan was working fine before i had to vape pc2's drive,
now it is driving me nuts. I have check all the
accessability permissions in "comp mngmt" and "services
and permissions" and nothing is different to that on pc1,
yet it still aks for a passwrd on notebook1.
Bare in mind all pc's are viewable in the workgroups on
all machines.

Man, I've had the same problems all over the place.
Still haven't found an answer yet myself. If you find
one, could you let me know too so I can shoot this stupid
machine properly once and for all?
Thanks,
E

Aren't these PC's fun? when the user name and password window comes up type
in for user name administrator/computername leave password blank hit enter.
Unless you have setup shares on PC2 you are trying to access the
administrator shares that would be the ones with the $ after the drive
letter. When you setup shares under the new share button be sure the
permission are set correctly.
