Mr. Moore

I tried to install a linksys usb g series adapter on two of my machines
one machine a brand new with xp-home.. the other is a p3-450 with xp-pro
I could not get the peer to peer working so I called tech-support..after two days
2.5 hours each. one tech had me installing changing -reinstalling the adapter on the
450 machine..she then had me restore it to a time a few days ago (17) it
restored fine had me reinstall the adapter it came up and seemed to install without
and errors but still would not talk with the other computer again re booting this time
the error code ' windows cannot load the device driver for the hardware because a previous
instance of the device driver is still in memory code (38) ..she had me reload the
driver from the disk and again it would recognize the adapter but not let me see any
of the other computers file..it was late last night and she wanted me to call today (19)
called .a new tech came up with the solution (5minutes) ..so both machines
talk fine.. Now when I reboot the machine it comes back with the same error above.
if I manually install the driver and leave the computer on ..it works fine between both
computer..but if I turn off and turn back on I have to reinstall the driver and not turn
the machine off..
please has anyone seen this problem, I've searched the knowledge base and found the
error code..but the fix was 'just restart the computer'

thank you
J.Moore

Try uninstalling the software, then open device mgr,R.
click the adapter,select uninstall,close-out,shutdown
computer.Id run w/o it installed,or reboot a time or
two.Then reinstall adapter,open add/remove programs,
windows components,make sure peer-peer is checked,you
might even uncheck when uninstalling in device mgr,
reinstall software. Before doing any, open event viewer
for related errors that accoured.

Just a shot in the dark, but I've found with my install of xp home that
installs of networking and other such h/w work better if done when I've
started the system in safe mode, and logged in as administrator.
Installation of drivers and such seem to go much smoother when done this
way. Perhaps it's just superstition, but I've been lucky with it.

Good luck
