I am u/g'ing my server to Multiprocessor support. in the
Device mgr, it shows STANDARD PC. If I u/g to MPS
Multiprocessor, I should be ok. I am concered due to
Q234558 that I'm going to have an issue..

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

No, you shouldn't be OK.
The article clearly states:
....Standard PC HAL is for any Standard PC, non-ACPI, or non-MPS (sic!).
Could be a 386, 486, Pentium, Pentium II, or Pentium III...You can use this
procedure only to upgrade from a single-processor HAL to a
multiple-processor HAL...

The best approach is to update BIOS and perform in-place upgrade
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=292175

If you want following KB article 234558 anyway, copy and rename current
ntoskrnl.exe and hal.dll (keep the names short in 8.3 format) before HAL
upgrade and duplicate default boot line in boot.ini file with the switches
/kernel={renamed kernel.exe} /hal={renamed hal.dll}.

It's a Compaq Proliant 1600 with a 550Mhz processor
(probably Pentium II). However, I have an identical
Compaq Proliant 1600 that I u/g'd to MPS and it went ok.
I'm just concerned because this is my AD primary, DNS,
and Mail server. This I can't afford to go down. Thanks!
