OK this is the second time that I am requesting
help....please someone if you can help me please do so.
Ok here is my problem. Every time I downlod new updates
from the windows update site it always takes 30min to an
hour to install...sometimes longer. They download fine,
but it hangs forever on the preparing to install part.
If anyone knows what is causing this I would really
appreciate the help.. This is really annoying. Thanks
for your help.

Donnie

Windows XP Pro
1024MB Ram
P4 2.4c

PS will put Msinfo stuff if needed

Installations seem to vary from Update to Update, I've assumed it has to do
with the complexity of the installation. It is frustrating when we're told
it's a 2 minute download and installation takes forever.

I know how you feel. My machine does the same thing.
All non microsoft installs are working fine. Any
microsoft update install hangs forever. Today the latest
security update KB810217 took three hours to run and
install. The download part is fine I am on DSL it's the
install that takes the blue bar hours to move one dot at
a time. Now the machine won't boot all the way up. I
have to go into hibernation and power back on to get
booted all the way up. The installs being slow have been
occuring for a year or more. It's not the machine either
it's a 1.8 Ghz with 512 of Ram so theres plenty of
horsepower there. This only occurs on microsoft
updates. How about it microsoft any ideas.

Thanks for the response...but the slowness just happens
on my desktop..my laptop (XP Pro) and my server (2k3)
install quickly and w/o delay....weird

Very interesting indeed. When your Desk Top doesn't boot all the way up does
it hang or do you get a black screen ? I'm having "Black Screen" problems.
just wondered.
Dave

Dave I don't have any problems with boot up or shut
down...just the slow install of microsoft products and
downloads.

Donnie

Thanks Donnie, I guess it's Ed (post above) who said he had boot up
problems.
Appreciate your response.
