XP Home. Added new hard drive to system. Using as boot
drive. Old drive for extra storage. System restore only
recognizes old drive for restore points. Where and can
you add a new HD to sys. restore feature?
Ernie

right click My Computer. Click on properties. Click the
System Restore Tab. Here you can turn system restore
on/off on all drives.

That's the problem. The only drive listed to changed
settings for is my old drive. The new drive is NOT
listed.

80GB HD. Formatted, partitioned, etc. Installed XP
Home. Copied (mirrored) all files to new drive with CD
utility that came with HD. Copied all settings to new
drive with XP utility. Set New HD as boot drive. Old
drive setup switch as slave, new as master. Boots to new
HD, etc.

You formatted the new drive but didn't say how. I had a
similar problem after installing a new Maxtor hard drive.
I formatted it with the Maxtor utility - which reported
that everything was fine. Windows refused to recognize
that the drive existed. After a couple of iterations of
this I said . . . well, I won't tell you what I said but I
quit using the Maxtor utility and went back to the basic
Windows 'format x' and after that everything worked.

Bill
ps. Happy New Year!

Bill,
Thanks for the response. This is a Seagate. Yes, I used
the utility that came on a CD to format in NTFS format.
The system recognizes the drive and everything. In the
Contro Panel -> computer management -> Disk Management,
it's all there. Has the new drive showing Healthy
(System), the old drive Healthy(Active). Don't really
know what it means by active, though.

I think I found the fix, for me. Disconnected the old
HD, rebooted, created a restore point, shut down,
reconnected old HD, booted back up. The new HD (C) is
now in the list of available disks for monitoring.
