Win XP Pro SP2

I have a wireless home network between my desktop & laptop computers. All
went normally for a while but now when I go to My Network Places on the
laptop is just shows the laptop on the list and not the desktop. The
desktop shows both as it should. The network is still in place okay. When
I open a program that resides on the laptop and choose a file from it's
recent file list that resides on the desktop it opens fine. If I choose the
File/Open command though the desktop is unlisted. I am not very experienced
with networks, a simple reply please.

Thanks in advance... Bob

Note: Someone suggested I reset the router but did not say how this is done.
Would the fact that both computers access the wireless internet fine and the
desktop communicates with the laptop fine exonerate the router?

To reset your router, just unplug it from the electrical outlet for 30
seconds and then plug it back in.

Thanks for the prompt reply. One question though. Does that means the note
at the bottom of my post would have no effect on the problen?

There should be a reset button on the back of your router's housing,
depress it for 20 seconds, then turn the router off and allow it to
reboot.
Since both machines can connect to the Internet suggests there is a
problem with your LAN setup. Check your firewall settings for starters.

Bob:

Routers that I've seen have a reset button that's activated by pushing a
pencil or ren into a small hole in the back, hold it down for 30 seconds, and
it'll get you back to the factory settings.

Before I do that though, I would go into network places, the top item, "add
a network place, go thru the screens where you browse for the PC and folders
you're looking for, and then see if you could add it in. You might even want
ot wait for 10 minutes, refresh network places, and see if it shows up.

I had this problem when first establishing networks, with a wired one at the
business, and majority wireless and home. In fact, at the business, we've
seen folders showing at "network places" in the morning, then disappeared
later. I got a real nervous clerk that goes into a panic attack when this
happens.

Usually, we do a reboot, and it's taken care of.

I have sporadic problems in the beginning with "connectivity issues", and
Linksys tech support had me reset the router, and I had to do the whole
configuration all over. But I since learned that you can save the settings,
and import them, if you do a reset, assuming the configuration did not affect
the connectivity.
