2nd hard drive not seen

I just installed a 2nd 80G hard drive. It is loaded and
the computer says it is there and working; however it is
not seen when you explore. The only way to reach it was
to put a sortcut on the desktop. How can it be seen. Will
the 2nd drive be used after the 1st is full. Also cannot
dump my data because it says that it is being used by the
system, even though I made a copy and copied it to new HD.
Why is everything being deferred to the C drive? Thanks
 
Right click on My Computer and select Manage.

On the following screen, select Disk Management. It should now appear on
the right hand side of the screen, where you can partition and format it (if
necessary) and assign it a drive letter.
