I couldn't find a 2k3 newsgroup so I will post for now in here until I find
such a newsgroup.
basically, we have a test lab that we are playing with and I decided to
manually make a BDC get tombstoned and see how to recover it. Not as easy
as it sounds. Can anyone tell me what the steps are involved in getting a
tombstoned DC back online?
In a nutshell, I ran DCPromo which failed. I then manualy removed the BDC
from AD users and computers and tried again
I then removed the BDC from AD Sites & Services, afterwhich I then removed
it from the DNS
Still nothing!
Ok, so I renamed the BDC to another name and that went well but it never got
registered in the system so now it can resolve the PDC using NSLOOKUP and
the IP settings are correct but it can not connect to the DNS on the PDC.
So I see that I completly screwed up getting a tombstoned DC back so before
I try anything more, what do I need to do to recover?
Thanks!
