I must have changed something, though I'm not sure just what. All of
a sudden my plain text messages are all coming through with an
attachment. The attachment takes its name from the Subject: line
and is a .txt file.

How do I stop the attachment from being made?

This has happened to me a number of times. I've never been able to figure
out why it happens or how to stop it. A reboot has always cured it for me
though. (Probably just closing Outlook would be fine, but if I close
Outlook, I reboot at the same time, since Outlook is always the first thing
on my taskbar, and if I close it, I have to close everything else so I can
get it back to where I want it on the taskbar. At that point, I might as
well reboot, since I probably haven't done so in a number of days.)

Thanks, Ray. I had already rebooted and still had the problem.
However, after reading your note, I rebooted a second time. All is
well now.

Wish I knew what was causing this...

This is a know issue when you are running Outlook non-stop for a couple of
days. A reboot is indeed the cure for this.

Hmmm, but I don't do that. I run it during the day and the computer
is shut down in the evening and overnight. This time it took 2
reboots, as the first one didn't help. And the first reboot was after
the computer had been on for about an hour. Weird.

I've sometimes chosen to believe that it had something to do with the POP
server, as I've only ever seen this on Internet mail that I've POPped in.
Even if it's not true, I choose to believe it so I don't have to try to
figure out how to fix it. ;]

Now, that may be a clue. I was having a POP problem around the time
the attachment issue came up. I routinely download 9 accounts and one
was acting up yesterday. I had to delete it and recreate it.

If that was where the problem started, then it would explain why my
second reboot fixed the attachement problem and the first one didn't.
That's assuming I fixed the errant POP account in between reboots. I
*think* I did, but can't remember for sure.
