Hello. I have a server running 2K Server (as a DC) with
30 computers logging in, mostly XPPro, a few 98SE. The
workstations get IPs from a router, the server is fixed.
The same server was a being used as a file server in a
big workgroup. No connection problems were evident at
this time. A fresh install of 2k Server (with all
updates)was done and setup with AD because of security
issues. With the same hardware and physical plant, I am
getting numerous network drop-offs. Network apps stop
working, and they have to log off and back on again (they
don't have to reboot). The end-users CLAIM when they drop
off the network, the internet stays on. With that said,
here is my question:
Most of the wiring in the building is (please don't laugh)
cat 3. Does it make sense that there were no drop-offs
while this thing was a workgroup, but logging in to a
domain requires a healthier connection? Also will the
internet stay connected on crappy infrastructure at the
same time a domain login drops off?
Thank you, much appreciated. Any answers may help my
cause to increase my budget...
