I have a question...

I like to leave my computer on over-night and I rarely shut it off. I have a
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro, and I was wondering if keeping it on all the time would
be bad for the card.

I turn off my monitor of course and all of that stuff at night, but I just
leave it on. Will this hurt the card in any way?

Thanks for any insight you can provide

You will probably get many answers both pro and con, as leaving a computer
on versus off can stir up some good arguments for both sides.

Some will say that continuing to turn off and on causes the compenents to
expand and contract more, thus shortening the life of the component. Others
will say that leaving it on can cause damage as well, as well as wasting
energy.

Personally, I like to leave my system on for the most part, have my monitor
set to power down after an hour of inactivity, and have a decent ups.

As long as your fans are working, I doubt it would damage your card in any
way.

I've done about 6 restarts in the past 4 weeks but one thing I do tend to
notice is the increase of dust it builds up. I do have a some mesh on the
intake fans of my lian li case but I would recommend a clean of the
heatsinks and fans occasionally as they will clog up and the temps will rise
inside your computer.

IMHO I would say that the answer is definately Yes and NO. It greatly
depends on the individual system. The air flow and the heat build up could
be a factor. If you have a liteweight system with little hardware or a
radiator that defrosts the freezer. Monitoring temps wouldn't hurt.
