24/7 external storage solution

I'm looking for an external SATA/PATA storage solution (USB2,Firewire or
LAN too) that should run 24 hour per day, the whole week (24/7 application).

The commercial usb/firewire boxes seem to be too small for a good
cooling of the hard disk.

Any suggestions?

If you can find a supplier in your country try these (see U7 series). They
are all metal (black anodised aluminium plate and aluminium extrusions) and
can be modified easily.

I have a single 5.25" bay unit that I fitted with a 3.5" 160G WD drive BUT
next time I would be tempted to get a 2 or 4 bay unit (U7-2 or -U74) as I
*think* these have an internal PSU. The single drive bay unit has a small
fan on the back and an external "brick in the cable" type power supply.

The black bits on the sides are NOT vents. They look like heatsinks but
probably aren't very effective. I added a row of extra cooling holes in the
base plate (in front of the drive at the front) to improve airflow over the
drive whan used with a blank front panel. Looks smart and very solid.

I leave the unit on 24/7. The drive gets about 30GByte written to it every
night.

I have a Buffalo Linkstation on my network.

My computer room is not heated or cooled (In New Mexico it gets pretty
hot out there). The Buffalo has a little fan in the enclosure and has
been running 24/7 for about 6 months now with no problems.
