When I paste in an pie chart from excel to powerpoint, the pie chart
shows different colors for each slice in the normal view of
powerpoint.

In some cases however, the slide show view makes all of the colors
merge into one color in the pie chart except for the biggest slice (so
all of the smaller slices now look like one big slice). Changing the
colors manually and repasting the pie chart from mulitple versions
dosn't seem to fix this.

Any one else have the same problem/ possible fix?

I have not seen this phenomenon yet. Some questions:
- Are those small slices very narrow?
- Did you color the slices manually or did you use the design colors?
- Does your presentation use the same design colors as your spreadsheet?

In addition to Ute's questions, I want to know how the data is laid out on
the spreadsheet -- is it horizontal or vertical?
