2007: Placeholder edits line break after comma

In 2007 placeholders, whenever I insert a comma after the last word in any
line, powerpoint automatically fits this word onto a new line although both
the word and comma and space would fit. Any ideas how this behaviour can be
switched off? Autofit option does not seem to have anything to do with it and
I can't find an entry in auto correct?
 
You might want to check the margin of the placeholder -- it may look like it
should fit, but it may not because of the internal margin. Right-click the
placeholder, choose Format Shape, then textbox, and look at the internal
margin. See if changing that changes the behavior when adding a comma to the
text.
 
No, it's nothing like that. Zero margin. It does even fit on one line if I do
not insert a comma but a full stop?! I've been thinking along the lines of
the widow/orphan paragraph setting in word.
The text is four or five words seperated by commas and the word in question
should be the second last.

Wow, I don't know, then. You might check Tools | Autocorrect and see if
there's anything listed in there for a comma. But the fact that a list of
words with commas is fine makes it seem like that's not the problem.

PPT doesn't have anything like Word's widow/orphan setting.

I am experiencing this same problem. It's not a margin problem, and I can't
locate anything in the autocorrect wizard associated with this specific
challenge. This happens when I am listing several items separated by commas
(e.g., "the courses he took were English, math, pshchology, and history.")
In this example, PowerPoint will invariably begin a new line starting with
the word "English"... but only after I place the comma after it. If I skip
the comma and string the list together without commas, PowerPoint will put
them all on the same line. Grrr. Does anyone know of a work-around for this?

Do you have a sample slide that exhibits this behavior for you? I'd really
like to see if it behaves the same way here. Please mail it to echos at indy
dot net and add a reminder of the problem (and perhaps the title of this
thread) so I can remember what the issue is.
 
I'm having the same problem, with text boxes that I've inserted. It doesn't
happen with every comma, or every line, just seemingly randomly throughout
the text. The problem isn't new with Office 2007, though -- I've run into
this with earlier versions, too. I can't find anything systematic about when
it happens, except that it's always after a comma that the line breaks.
Please help!

Do you have a Windows-certified printer driver installed and set as the
default printer? Someone sent me a file that displays this behavior on their
system, but I don't see it here on mine when I open their file. I suspect
the printer driver is the reason.

It shouldn't matter whether the printer's on or off, but is it on the local
computer or on a server?

If it's on a server, how exactly did you install the printer driver? Windows
will do a kind of autoinstall if you choose a printer on a server. That doesn't
work well with Office. It's better to go through the whole "choose a printer,
tell it you have a disk, lead the installer to the cd, ... yada ... yada ... "
routine. This ensures that the driver's on your own PC and not on the server.
 
I am having this exact same problem. I tried installing the phony
printer driver on my computer, as suggested, but the problem
persists. Any other ideas? TIA - gina
 
Happens to me, too! Replacing commas with semi-colons fixes the spacing, but
that doesn't address the root problem. I've spent *so much* time working
through every setting I can think of, including those mentioned in this
thread. Grrr!

Ray, can you send me a sample file that does this for you? Could you also
include a screenshot of your screen so I can see what you see there? You can
mail it to echos at indy dot net -- and if you'd include the text of this
post, that would help me remember why I requested the file! :-)

Also, I keep thinking this should be resolved by installing a
Windows-certified printer driver on your computer and setting it as the
default driver. Here are instructions for doing that.

Would you mind doing this -- and choosing the specific printer driver
mentioned in that FAQ -- and let us know if that resolves the issue?

Is there any chance this PPT version (or the specific text boxes) is some other
language than English? Another user with a French version has just reported
this elsewhere.

I know, I just saw that. But no, the textboxes in the sample file are US
English.

Darn. I was hoping that was a clue!
