Hi, I am not allowed to install the compatability pack on the public
computers I use. I created a presentation in PowerPoint 2007 at home and
saved it only ever as a .ppt file. I never used the themes and styles from
earlier versions, so I don't know what was available before and what it new.
But my colleagues and I were unable to open the .ppt file on the older
versions of PowerPoint on the public computers at work. 2007 is still
capable of opening the .ppt file. I doubt the file was damaged in
transferring. I emailed it to my boss, took a copy on a USB drive, and
uploaded it to some web space I have. My only remaining conclusion is there
was a style element or effect that was not properly converted to 97-2003 .ppt
format, and so we could not view the presentation. I was even presented with
a box in 2007 that told me that some text effects would change but it would
still be legible. Any thoughts? Should I submit something to the developers?
Thanks for reading.

Hm. Saving as PPT should enable the file to be opened in 2003.

If you want to email the file to me, I'll take a look and/or file a bug.

One question, though -- what version of PPT are you and your colleagues
using? Please open PPT and look in Help|About to see the version -- I'm most
specifically curious to see if SP1 or SP2 has been installed.
