The Viewer features state - The following Microsoft PowerPoint
features are not supported by this viewer:
Running macros, programs, or opening linked or embedded objects.

That seems clear, but I'm hoping it's not true. I need to run .exe
files from the presentation. I do this now with the '97 viewer.

True statements? Any work-arounds? Thanks.

Sorry, everything I have heard about the new PPV2003 has said this is true.

It seems that MS considered these too high and too risky to leave intact.
To a degree, I agree. I could make a link to a program that reformats a HDD
or emails all your address book entries to the pentagon. A macro can be
programmed to do the same. But I still believe that the choice to use the
links should have been given to the user. A list of links/macros with
yes/no checkmarks would be nice. A high/low/no risk setting would have been
fine, too.

It is true that you cannot link to executable files using Action Settings >
Run Program. However, if you are as old as I and you remember how to
construct a small BAT file, you can use it to initiate an executable file
and then link to the BAT file via Action Settings > Hyperlink To > Other
File > yourfile.bat. This seems to be a hole in the dam that was
unintentionally overlooked.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello Peter,

PowerPoint doesn't provide the functionality that you are looking for
(support Action Settings to Run programs).

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that it's important that
the PowerPoint Viewer provide this kind of functionality, don't forget to
send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
