2003 still having a problem

I have now upgraded to PPt 2003. I have checked the codecs and I think they are all there...I have gone into the registry and changed things as per the web site..

My avi file is now showing the first frame when I import a file into a presentation, but it will not play the clip. When I click it goes to a black box inside a white screen. I have tried having the file play automatically and from click setting. I am viewing in Slide Show (F5)

any ideas...

1. Does your AVI play in Media Player (Start Menu | Run | mplay32.exe)?

2. Check here to confirm that you have not run into the link path problem:
http://snipurl.com/linkproblems

3. Also, look here: http://snipurl.com/pp2003multimedia

Do get back with your findings - how big is your AVI file?

Ok...I have imported the .avi file again and I have made it work as follows

Import Movie from File -> right click -> Edit Movie Object -> click the appropriate boxes -> click O

Viola! I am not sure if this was the initial problem as I just assumed when the pop up screen asked if I wanted it to play back automaticallly or on a mouse click that it would do it. I am now assuming that I will need to do the above to each individual file I import. Is this correct

avi file is about 60,000+K
avi file does not run in Media Player - help with this?
path name does not seem to be a problem..

Thanks for all of your help and tips...they are coming in handy!

If the AVI doesn't play in MCI Media Player (mplay32.exe), it's probably not
going to play in PPT, although PPT 2003 does try to hand the AVI off to
Windows Media Player in those instances.

If I were you, I'd check my registry against those screenshots shown in
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm.

I'm glad this is helping you.

If the AVI file plays in PowerPoint 2003 but not in the Media Player, then
you'll have problems if the presentation needs to be played in older
PowerPoint versions.

By default, PowerPoint prompts you if you want a movie file to play
automatically when you insert it - if you rather not do the Edit Movie
Object for all video files, you might want to remove them and reinsert -
then agree when PowerPoint offers you the option to play automatically.

A 60 MB AVI file is quite huge - you might want to convert it to WMV using
the free Windows Media Encoder (http://www.windowsmedia.com) - a WMV file
may also put an end to your MCI problems.

Do get back and let us know if this worked for you or not - or if you need
more help.
