To add animations to text or objects, highlight or select the object you want then click on Slideshow > Custom Animation > Add effect. The effects are grouped by entrance, exit, etc depending on what you want to happen. It's easiest to add the effects in the order you want them to happen (ie with each click of the mouse, or one following another automatically depending on what you want) but you can always re-order them.
