I have just upgraded from 2000. Under Format, Background and Fill Effects
there is a transparency option that always seems to be greyed out. What is
this option used for and how can you make it active?

MarkN,
This is an option you can use to set up the transparency of fill colors for
AutoShapes and such.

Hi Luc,

I think you are referring to something different. I want to know what
transparency does in relation to slide backgrounds (Format, Background, Fill
Effects).

Thanks,
MarkN

When you use fill effects on ashape in the foreground you can use this to
apply a % transparency to the gradient colours so that you can see through
the shape. Since you cant have a transparent background (what would you see
through it!?) this is greyed out in format background.

Did that answer the question / help?

Hi Luc,

That will always be grayed out. The transparency settings allow you to make a
shape partially transparent so you can "see through" it to whatever's behind
it.

Since the background is behind everything in a PPT slide, it makes no sense to
allow it to be turned transparent.

OK, I admit, it might be kind of cool to have a PPT presentation in a window
hovering over something else on the computer screen and to be able to make the
whole PPT, b/g and all, semi-transparent. But PPT doesn't do that; the PPT
bacgkround will always obscure whatever's behind it on screen. Given that,
making the b/g transparent doesn't make sense.
