Before I upgrade from PowerPoint 2000 to the 2002 version,
I'd like to know if there are new transitions. I us PP
mostly to make picture slideshows for graduations,
weddings, etc. Windows Movie Maker has wonderful
transitions and picture effects, but my photos look grainy
when I go full screen. I'd like to keep using PowerPoint,
but don't want to order it until I know how it has been
improved.

Val,

Yes there are new transitions....lots and lots of them.
Including a "smooth fade" like the old slide projector dissolve units.

You can even animate an object in and OUT.
Complete with speed control from v.slow to v.fast and fine control
in-between using a timeline

The upgrade from 2000 to 2002 is very worthwhile from a transition/animation
point of view.

Animation upgrades include:
Entrance
Emphasis
Exit
Motion paths
Timing options

I also like the user interface better.

Overall, my advice is to upgrade to PP 2002.

(I have not heard any compelling arguments for upgrading to PP 2003, yet.
Anyone want to offer some?)

Are you using Movie Maker 2? If your photos are at least 1024 X 768 pixels
in size, they won't be grainy at full screen. Could that be the problem?

IMNSHO the new animations justify the upgrading all by themselves, BUT
you do need quite a powerful machine to run some of them properly.

As well as new effects, you can now animate objects onto the slide AND
off of the slide AND you can animate them in between for emphasis...

....as many times as you like...

....at the same time as other animations are happening...

....all arranged on a timeline if you wish!

As if that wasn't enough, there's Motion Paths too! Enabling precise
(well, nearly) placement and movement of objects.

You'll love it, just tell Microsoft I sent you (I'm on commission!)

PS - there's a mini slidesorter down the left hand side of the 'normal'
view now as well, which can be shown instead of the Outline.

PPS - AND Multiple Masters! But you probably won't care much about
that...

Wouldn't then then have to kill all of us?

Let me know in advance, 'kay? I'm calling in sick that day.

The animations are certainly improved but I am having a
problem crating an AutoRun Cd since the new animations
don't work with the PPT Viewer 97.

Any word on when a new stand-alone viewer that can hande
all the new transition/animations features?
