2002: name changes when trying to save document

Hi everyone,

I've encountered a minor annoyance in Word 2002. When
trying to save a new document, I enter the doc name and
proceed to save it to a folder. However, if my mouse
happens to touch a document previously saved to the same
folder (or in any folder as I'm searching for the right
one), my new document takes on the name of the previously
saved, unrelated document that my mouse just touched.

I hope I explained this ok. Has anyone encountered the
same, and have any suggestions? I did search the MS
knowledge base, but can't get anything to turn up.
Thanks for your help!

Ann Marie

It should require more than a touch - a deliberate left click to get that to
happen. Maybe you should try a different mouse.

Hi, Ann Marie,

Normally you have to click the name or icon of another file in the
Save As dialog in order to get that name in the File Name box --
simply passing the mouse over it isn't enough. If you're absolutely
sure you aren't clicking, then something may be wrong with your mouse
or the way it's installed. If you're using a laptop with a
pressure-sensitive pad, you may be brushing the pad unintentionally
and having that interpreted as a click.

There's nothing in Word, 2002 or any other version, that can cause
this behavior under normal circumstances.
