I developed a 2000 version application in Access 2002 Developer and
distribute to Access 2002 runtime clients and Access 2000 full version
clients.

The runtime clients work fine as expected but not the 2000 clients. The
application and the default menu load OK but the startup form does not If I
then open it using shift and do a compile, it then works fine.

Any thoughts why this is or where I should start looking?

I don't believe the above is possible. Are you talking about a mde? While
access 2002 can read, and work, and create a standard a2000 mdb file, it CAN
NOT create a standard a2000 mde.

In other words, you can develop both a2000 mdb files, and a2002 mdb files
with a2002. However, if you try to create a mde file in a2002 that is in
a2000 format, the mde option is greyed out. Only WHEN YOU CONVERT THE MDB to
a2002 format CAN YOU CREATE a mde. So, the mde MUST ALWAYS be in the format
of the version you are running.

This issue really has nothing to do with the developer edition, EXCEPT that
you USUALLY deploy a mde using the developer edition. So, if you create a
mde with a2002 (regardless if this is runtime or NOT!), that mde can not be
used by a2000.

Either you have to distribute the files in mdb 2000 format, have simply
install the a2002 runtime on those clients that have the full version of
ms-access. If the full version a2000 clients can, or have to modify the mdb
file, then I you MUST choose a2000 format, and NOT a2002 format for your mdb
files.

You could try a test, and see if the a2002 runtime will open a standard mdb
in a2000 format (this would force to distribute a a2000 mdb *if* it works,
and you would NOT be able to use a a2000 mde). This idea *might* work. You
CAN NOT open a a2002 mdb, or a2002 mde with a a2000 system at all.

Sorry I didn't reply till now. I got it fixed. Installed Office 2000 SP3 on
those will full access

BTW I am creating a 2000 mdb and distributing to 2000 full version and 2002
runtime. All is well now.
