I installed a new power supply and tried to boot up. The first time it did
boot, but got several error messages and it shutdown. I restarted the
computer and then it said to run scan disk, so I did. It started deleting
registry files for some reason. Now it wont get past detecting hardware. It
runs thru the beggening system checks. I tried to reinstall windows, but it
wonrt get past verifying hardware.

amd 2500
msi k7n2
maxtor 80g serial
windows 2000 pro
agp geforce 5900 msi
756 ram corsair

What operating system? Windows 2000 has no scandisk.

I take it that when you state "it won't get past verifying hardware" you
mean it doesn't get past POST (Power On Self Test). The most likely culprit
is the power supply you just installed. What led you to replace the power
supply in the first place? What brand/rating of power supply did you put in
it?

Thanks for your replys, I switched out power supplies, because the fans went out. I upgraded in watts, from 400 to 480. I find it very interesting that you say it has no scan disk, but I assure you something like it did scan and started to delete registry files. The computer starts up and does the usual start procedure, but before it gets to starting up windows it shows a black blank screen, nothing else. Its 2000 pro btw.

There is no scandisk but there is chkdsk. What were the error messages? What
files were deleted?

These may help.

Thank you for the suggestions, I tried to do the over install like you
suggested, but it did not work. It will not install, so I went and got a xp
cd and it did go into install mode, but did not find my hard drive. The
harddrive is showing up functional and operating. I rebotted and tried ot
install the drivers for the drive again. I hit f6 to install, but it sits
there and does not go thru. All the drives are installed correctly and are in
the correct boots. I fdisked my drives and started over. It goes thru, but
when it comes down to installing it does not find my drive and this may be
happening since I cant install The drivers for the drive. I am at my wits end
and cant afford professional help.

What happens when you try?
