I just upgraded my win 98se computer to win 2000 pro. I
also upgrade the primary hard drive to the new format
(nfts?) After it started copying the new system files to
the primary hard drive I left knowing it would take a
while. When I returned it had rebooted but would not
start up. apparently there is a problem with the boot
area or process. the upgrade did not indicate there were
any issues related to this and I have enough resources for
the upgrade. I tried to use a set of four setup disk from
another computer but it cannot repair it because I never
was able to make an emergency boot disk because the
upgrade was never complete. Also, if I try to set up the
2000 again with the set up disk it cann't access the ntfs
drive. this is an older computer and I cann't boot from
the cd rom.
HELP! I have important data on this disk. A window 98
startup disk will not reconize the newly formated disk.

thanks for any help

Well, the bad news is the drive may have crashed. The only way you will
know for sure is to try to access it from another pc or by using ntfs4dos.
You can get a read only version of this for free, just do a search for it on
the internet. At least it will tell you if the data is still intact. If it
is, maybe you can pull the drive and slave it to another Win2K pc and see if
you can access it that way.
Did you make a backup before you began?
