I bought a used laptop from someone who installed Windows
2000 Server on there because Windows 98 was badly damaged
and wasn't accessible. I am having problems with 2000
Server ever since a well-meaning friend was prompted by
the computer to delete a bunch of files and told it to do
so. I cannot click on links in MS Explorer or in MS
Outlook. When I am on Windows Explorer, I cannot move
files to another folder. My understanding is that 2000
Server works differently than what would normally be
installed on a desktop. How do I correct this on a very
limited budget? Please help - someone!!!

You could use the original W2K Server Disk, and do a repair install.

And for *^&%*&% sake, if you are running it as a server, then create
user accounts for your "friends" that have LIMITED rights! And DO NOT
let your friends use the machine with an admin account.
